Only a fifth of respondents had no overarching life outlook at all

Evidence

Notice first that about 20% of each sample said they did not have a “basic, most important outlook.” (I understand that better among the students than among the parents.) Second, you will see that the most common outlook was personal, developed by about 35% of the respondents by themselves, and by a few others with friends. Next came religion, more commonly important among parents than students. And after that it really falls off.
