Non-Western time studies only matter as contrast cases for modernization theory
Evidence
One may conjecture, with sufficient empirical plausibility, that wherever processes of modernization occur they will bring in train a corresponding transformation of concepts of time. A systematic analysis of premodern or non-European cultures in which modernization processes have not yet transpired is not required for this enterprise. I will therefore only make use of related ethnological and historical studies of time to the extent that they help illuminate, by way of contrast, the change in the temporal structures and perspectives of modernity. — Hartmut Rosa, Social Acceleration, 144
