New York never adopted Field’s proposed civil code despite decades of advocacy.
Evidence
New York would have none of it. Till the end of his long life, Field continued to press for adoption in his state. He never succeeded. New York did enact a penal code, which went into effect in 1881; but the civil code was repeatedly turned down, the latest snub occurring in 1885. — Lawrence M.
