Muslim Americans are excluded from full citizenship through surveillance and monitoring
Evidence
At the time that I conducted the interviews for this book, numerous pundits put forth the idea that the United States had finally realized a “postracial” era with the election of Barack Obama. But the experiences of Muslim American men and women directly challenge the notion that a colorblind society has been attained. Instead, America’s social and political climate continues to shift, along with its boundaries. Immigration policies in America’s post-9/11 society have become more draconian as a result of being absorbed under the Department of Homeland Security. American borders have tightened, allowing fewer immigrants from certain countries, including those from Muslim-majority countries. Within the borders, Muslim Americans are excluded from citizenship as they are watched and monitored because they are seen as violent and dangerous to America. — Saher Selod, Forever Suspect_ Racialized…, 88

- XREF: Connects to the reader’s existing Global Racial Enemy slot and Beydoun’s account of how a faith gets racialized into a suspect category.
