Most modern cochlear implant patients achieve telephone conversation ability
Evidence
By December 2012, approximately 324 200 cochlear implants had been fitted worldwide (National Institutes of Health, 2014). Hence, extensive knowledge has been gained about the outcomes of cochlear implantation. There is individual variation on the hearing performance achieved with cochlear implants. With modern implants and successful rehabilitation, most patients achieve the ability to have a telephone conversation (Zeng, 2004). Visual cues, such as lip-reading, can enhance the communication performance significantly. — Ville Pulkki, Matti Karjalainen, Communication Acoustics- An…, 2765
