Mandatory powers installed regimes mirroring their own institutions in Arab territories
Evidence
During this period the former Arab provinces of the Ottoman Empire in southwest Asia were constituted into separate states and placed under mandatory rule, British or French. These were endowed with more or less liberal institutions, each of the mandatory powers setting up regimes in its own image—republics in the French territories, constitutional monarchies in those under British mandate. — Bernard Lewis, From Babel to Dragomans, 867
