Loudness halves for every tenfold decrease in tone duration below 100 ms
Evidence
In this demonstration, the dependence of loudness on duration is illustrated. You will hear pairs of 3 kHz tones (60 dB), the first tone of a pair is always 1000 ms long, the second tone has durations of 1000, 300, 100, 30, 10, and 3 ms. Each pair is presented twice. You can hear that below 100 ms, the loudness of the second tone decreases. β Professor Dr.-Ing. Hugo Fastl, Professor Dr.-Ing. Eberhard, Psychoacoustics- Facts and Models, 3329
