Listener attitude toward a sound, not just acoustics, shapes perceived pleasantness

Evidence

Whether a sound is accepted as sounding pleasant or unpleasant depends not only on the physical parameters of the sound but also on the subjective relationship of the listener to the sound. These nonacoustic influences cannot be anticipated and have therefore to be ignored and eliminated if possible. — Professor Dr.-Ing. Hugo Fastl, Professor Dr.-Ing. Eberhard, Psychoacoustics- Facts and Models, 1374
