Jewish Americans mostly reject that Muslims sympathize with al-Qaeda.
Evidence
An August 2011 Gallup poll asked respondents in various religious groups if they thought that American Muslims are sympathetic to al-Qaeda. Seventy percent of Jewish Americans said no; the only groups with higher “no” percentages were Muslims and atheists. Clearly this is about politics, not religion. — Deepa Kumar, Islamophobia and the Politics of Empire, 550 (

In a May 2016 article for Al Jazeera English, I wrote, … For Muslim Americans, demonstrations of good citizenship are tied to terrorism. Namely, condemning any and every act that involves a Muslim culprit. Apologizing for the actions of a deviant, distant few. And routinely on deaf ears, collective statements against the savage acts of savage actors such as ISIL… . Muslim Americans are riddled with the assignment of collective guilt that obliges them to disavow or apologize for entirely unrelated actors, or completely unconnected actions… . Unfortunately, there are only two sides, and selecting the wrong side leaves one vulnerable to identification as a bad Muslim, followed by the surveillance and state violence attendant with that classification. — Khaled A. Few journalists explained to Americans the role of the United States in creating and arming the mujahideen in Afghanistan to fight the Soviets in the 1980s, many of whom later joined Al-Qaeda. Rather than accurately portray Al-Qaeda and Osama bin Laden as the extremist fringe that they were, Western media stories made them out to be representatives of Muslims both abroad and in the United States. — Sahar F.
