Irish land dispossession paralleled African colonial land theft in scale

Evidence

By the mid-eighteenth century Catholics held only seven percent of Irish land. In the twentieth century African residents of various British colonies in Africa have pointed out that in the beginning the white man had the Bible and the Africans had the land; now the Africans have the Bible and the white man has the land. In Ireland, the transfer of the land from native cultivators to foreign conquerors took place on as large a scale as in any African colony, without even the compensation of the Bible (King James version). — Noel Ignatiev, How the Irish Became White, 128
