Internet media outlets collapsed in succession from 2016 to 2024

Evidence

The implosion of internet media followed suit. Gawker was the first to fall, in 2016, after Peter Thiel funded Hulk Hogan’s successful lawsuit against it. The site made a brief comeback in 2021 but was shuttered for good shortly thereafter. BuzzFeed News, once a pioneer in digital journalism, shut down in April 2023, leaving the main BuzzFeed site to hobble along. Vice collapsed a month later. In early 2024, Condé Nast laid off staff at Pitchfork Media and folded the site into GQ. — W. David Marx, Blank Space, 713
