Influencer videos’ recurring backgrounds reveal capitalist infrastructures.
Evidence
Each chapter looks toward the backgrounds of images and videos online to discover and chart the infrastructures of late capitalist influencer culture—the home, the car, the warehouse, and the “market.” These backgrounds were chosen for a simple reason: they constantly appear in the videos of influencers. The backgrounds we examine are not exhaustive, nor are they intended to be. And all of these we take literally, though by “market” we not only mean actual stores but more general spaces of exchange, consumption, capitalist excess, and giveaways and orgies of cash. — Grant Bollmer, Katherine Guinness, The Influencer Factory, 114
