Indentured labor replaced slave labor in British colonies.

Evidence

Indentured labor filled a gap created by the abolition of slavery in the British Empire and the resulting labor shortages in the colonies of the Caribbean, Africa, and the Indian Ocean region. In this period, more than 1.5 million men and women from the Indian subcontinent went abroad to work on plantations in the Asian Pacific region, East Africa, South Africa, and the Caribbean (Northrup 1995, 20–21). — Junaid Rana, Terrifying Muslims, 455
