Holocaust denial propaganda shifts belief even when paired with a perpetrator confession
Evidence
The ââSixty-six Questionsâ (2:30 session) moved the studentsâ mean from 59.4 to 55.3 (p < .05). When pitted against the Hoess confession, the propaganda dropped scores even more, from 60.9 to 54.1 (p < .001). In the former case, only items 1, 2, and 3 from Exhibit 10.1 showed a significant drop. In the latter case, in which students received both pieces, all of the items showed a significant drop, except number 8. In both conditions, Low RWAs were as affected by the propaganda as Highs. â Bob Altemeyer, The Authoritarian Specter, 3216
Categorization
- XREF: Empirical counterpart to vault claims (Whitehead & Perry, Melinda Cooper) about conservative authoritarianism - here showing denial propaganda works regardless of RWA level, qualifying simplistic âauthoritarians onlyâ models.
- QUESTION: Low RWAs were AS affected as Highs - this contradicts the standard finding that RWA predicts susceptibility to authoritarian propaganda. Worth chasing why denial content specifically breaks that pattern.
