Gramsci’s Lyons theses broke cleanly from Italy’s pre-1921 socialist tradition

Evidence

The Centre’s Congress Theses, published in October and drafted by Gramsci with the collaboration of Togliatti, give the most complete resume of the leadership’s analysis and strategy in this last period of semi-legal existence. The theses repudiated the entire socialist tradition in Italy prior to Livorno, and stressed the qualitative novelty introduced by the October Revolution and Leninism. — Antonio Gramsci, Selections from the Prison Notebooks, 208
