Expellees and repatriates were denied the migrant label by official discourse and scholarship
Evidence
Expellees and repatriates hold a particular place in twentieth-century German and French histories of migration. Even though they share important features with other groups of people leaving their homes and settling in new places, official and popular discourses alike have been unwilling or unable to consider them migrants. Even academic scholars have long been hesitant to include them in history textbooks of migration or approach their cases within the categories of migration studies. — Manuel Borutta and Jan C.
