Equalization masks a mode’s audibility but only for reproduced sound.
Evidence
Was the mode eliminated? No, but audible evidence of it was removed when the sound system was operating. It only works for sounds radiated by the loudspeakers, not from a bass guitar that someone might pick up and play. It also only worked for one seat, and one on each side on a sofa, parallel to the length mode. The room acoustics were unchanged. — Toole, Floyd E, Sound reproduction- the acoustics and…, 1632
