Entäußerung alters only form while Entfremdung alters both form and content
Evidence
Bernard Bourgeois, who adopts this term, explains: ‘Entäußerung expresses an exteriorization (Äußerung) which separates from the Self, or a separation from the Self by exteriorisation’ (translation of the Philosophy of Spirit (Paris: Vrin, 1988), note 4, p. 98). Now ‘alienation’ can also at times translate Entfremdung. According to Bourgeois, Entfremdung signifies a movement of dispossession which alters both the form and content, while Entäußerung only alters the form. We share this opinion to the degree that Entäußerung, in the religious context, is the representational expression of the divine dispossession, its presentation in the form of a representation. The content and the spiritual significance of this dispossession remain the same for speculative philosophy. — Catherine Malabou, The Future of Hegel, 1373

Categorization
- DEFINE: Precisely distinguishes Entäußerung from Entfremdung by what each dispossession alters — form alone versus form and content.
- XREF: The form/content distinction as the hinge of plastic transformation connects directly to the plasticity-as-double-negation thesis the reader is tracing to her brain work. — connects to: Entfremdung should be rendered as making-strange with legal-connotation resonance; The same content persists across different interaction forms; What is form in one context can be content in another. — Georg Simmel, on individuality and social forms_…, 53
- corroborated: 2 independent passages support this claim — Catherine Malabou, The Future of Hegel: Plasticity,…, 1373
