Election winners closely resemble their party’s typical authoritarian profile.
Evidence
The candidates indicated whether they had won or not, in an election that saw the NDP take 55 seats, the Liberals 1, and the Conservatives 10. The only elected Tory I heard from had an RWA score virtually identical to the mean of the other 13 (defeated) Conservative respondents. I did not hear from the 1 Liberal victor. The mean of the 13 NDP respondents who were elected to the legislative assembly (115.8) did not differ significantly from that of the 7 NDP participants who were defeated. Overall, it appears that the elected candidates represented their party’s field of standard-bearers when it comes These results basically replicated those obtained earlier in the three-party legislatures in Ontario and New Brunswick, and extended the base of generalization from elected officials to candidates for election. — Bob Altemeyer, The Authoritarian Specter, 3359
