Dissenting critique corrects method but spares the system’s epistemic foundations
Evidence
A dissenting author, however considerable the questions she poses are, does not question the mainstays of the system, or the epistemological structures or forms of knowledge that define the worldview through the prism in which problems in the field are solved. All these foundations and epistemic edifices are left in place, accepted and intact. What is interrogated, however, is the mode or modes in which the system is operated, analysis in it is conducted, methodological issues are defined, such interrogation aims to demolish and replace old approaches, the efficiency of its discourse or its modus operandi is managed, and so on. It amounts, in other words, to a correction within the system or to the system, but the system nonetheless, which remains in its foundational principles and structural modes of existence and operation more or less the same. — Wael Hallaq, Restating Orientalism, 339
