Degrading discourse normalizes discrimination against Muslims into a new social norm
Evidence
Acts that degrade Islam help to legitimize and normalize these categories within the collective mentality of a certain group, while discourses that disparage Islam and/or Muslims depict them as problems that need to be resolved. Since securitization is a state-centric process that begins with discourse and ends with practices, this study examines anti- Islamic discourses to understand the factors that contribute to the emergence of neo-Islamophobia, or a society in which discrimination and fear of Islam are seen as the new normal. — Muhammad Asad Latif, The Identity of Religion Always Comes Up, 115
