Decolonization dissolved empire-specific protected markets into a single global market
Evidence
In Asia and Africa, decolonization within a global capitalist framework had, of course, greatly contributed to the unification of a single global marker as well as to the intensification of capitalist relations in individual countries, for it had meant the dissolution of protected markets for individual colonizing countries - India for Britain, Niger for France, and so oninto a sif1:gle market open to circulation of all commodities on a global scale. The national bourgeoisies which rook hold of the newly independent countries have favoured the generalization of capitalist relations to whatever extent it is possible; various kinds of new protectionisms or the residual ties inherited from the past have sought to impede these processes but have failed to arrest the basic trajectory. — Aijaz Ahmad, In Theory, 1337
