Connecticut’s 1650 code was overwhelmingly copied from Massachusetts

Evidence

The Massachusetts example is the most striking. The Laws and Liberties of 1648 were widely emulated. Of seventy-eight provisions in Robert Ludlow’s Connecticut code of 1650, twenty-two were copied, almost verbatim, from the Massachusetts code, thirty-six were adopted with certain deletions or amendments, six came from other Massachusetts sources, and only fourteen (chiefly on local matters) were “original.” — Lawrence M.
