Classical Maliki legal textbooks remained standard in Morisco Spain

Evidence

Fiqh: Islamic Legal Texts The legal texts available in Spain at this time are best divided for our purposes into two groups, early works inherited from the “classical” period of Islam and later studies, many but not all of which were written in al-Andalus itself. In the first group we have basic short manuals produced during the great age of Maliki legal activity at the end of the tenth and during the eleventh centuries. Of these, perhaps the most important text was the Risala (Treatise) of Ibn Abi Zayd al-Qayrawani (d. 996). This standard textbook has remained in use into modern times, so it is hardly surprising that Muslims in Spain should have valued it. — L. P. Harvey, Muslims in Spain, 1500 to 1614, 724
