Christian scholars argued Muhammad could not be the Paraclete foretold by Jesus
Evidence
In a passage at the end of his book, the author argued the impossibility of taking the prophecy of the Paraclete for Muhammad. The former was the Holy Spirit and invisible and was to teach the Apostles all things; the latter was not a spirit, not invisible, and taught the Apostles nothing. Paraclete means consolator, but Muhammad, who came with the sword, was desolator rather. There is a note of ecclesiastical humour in this passage which appears equally in Marti’s explanatio. — Norman Daniel, Islam and the West, 309

- CANDY: The pun that Paraclete means ‘comforter’ while Muhammad the sword-bearer was a ‘desolator’ is a memorable, quotable medieval joke.
