Both major postwar authoritarian research programs collapsed by the 1990s
Evidence
By 1974, David Hanson could list 533 doctoral dissertations on these subjects—a considerable output at that time. Unfortunately, the F Scale and its underlying conceptualizations had so many defects—touched upon at the end of Chapter 1—that ultimately the first effort became ensnared in a tangle of methodological knots and inconsistent findings (R WA, pp. 18~80). And if you scan through the Psychological Abstracts for the 1980s and 1990s, you will find that the second effort has also been largely abandoned.
