Baptized Moriscos remained culturally and religiously attached to Islam

Evidence

One Gabriel Cordero confessed that in 1570 he, along with other Moriscos, had gone to Valladolid to benefit from the Edict of Grace that had been proclaimed. The day before the absolution was granted, they got together with other Moriscos from Valladolid itself and performed the ceremonies of Islamic ritual purification (atahor, guadoc) followed by prayer (cĀøala), and then, after receiving absolution, they did the same again! — L. In consequence, they were far removed from all urbane, courteous, and polite manners and customs. They brought their children up to run wild like brute beasts, giving them no rational teaching or instruction for salvation, except what was forced upon them, and what they were obliged by their superiors to attend, because they had been baptized. — L.
