Bantu Philosophy emerged from European perceptions and African resistance to Christianity
Evidence
But since this paper is not about the debate in African philosophy provoked by Bantu Philosophy, or even its history, it is better at this juncture to move on to the kernel of this paper, which is to explain why Bantu Philosophy became so influential that, more than 75 years after its publication, scholars still argue about and refer to it in their reflections on African philosophy and religion. More specifically, it is useful to identify and explain the factors that necessitated the articulation of Bantu Philosophy and the role it has played in relations between the West and Africa. The argument advanced here is that Bantu Philosophy is a product of European perceptions of Africa and Africans as well as of the African people’s cultural resistance against European Christianity, which was planted on the continent in the late nineteenth century. — Frans Dokman, Beyond Bantu Philosophy_…, 122
