ASHA prescribes 1-2 second steady and 200-ms pulsed tones for audiometry
Evidence
These recommendations are specific to audiometry, and different stimulus durations may be used for psychoacoustic testing. Here, we will evaluate the relationship between the ASHA recommended pure-tone durations and the frequency specificity of the stimuli used in audiometric testing. When measuring the audiogram, ASHA recommends using a pure-tone duration of 1 to 2 seconds for testing with steady tones and three, 200-ms presentations when testing with pulsed tones (ASHA, 2005). — Jennifer Lentz, Psychoacoustics- Perception of Normal…, 191
