Analytic thinking primes people to overrule quick intuition-based answers.
Evidence
In one study, they looked at whether people were inclined to overrule an intuitively appealing, but incorrect, answer in a series of math problems known as the Cognitive Reflection Task. For example: “A bat and a ball cost
1.10 in total. The bat costs1.00 more than the ball. How much does the ball cost?” The intuitive answer is 10 cents—but it’s wrong. A little more reflection reveals that the correct answer is 5 cents. — Norenzayan, Ara, Big gods - how religion transformed…, 601
