American Republican legislators show measurably higher ethnocentrism than Democratic legislators

Evidence

Republicans proved more ethnocentric than Democrats in all the legislatures, significantly so in all but Minnesota, and significantly so on all twelve of the items except number 44. The largest differences between Republicans and Democrats appeared on item 36 (certain races not as good as the white race), item 33 (Christianity the best religion), item 37 (Pakistanis and East Indians bring disease, ignorance, and crime), and item 42 (waste of time training certain races for good jobs). Overall, Democrats averaged 30.5, while Republicans had a mean of 40.3. — Bob Altemeyer, The Authoritarian Specter, 3518
