Zionist-Crusader analogy

A politicized analogy or discursive frame in Middle East political thought that equates Zionism/Israel with the medieval Crusader states. Scholars and writers on both Arab and Israeli sides have used and internalized this comparison, contributing to what is described as ‘Crusader anxiety’—a shared expectation that, like the Crusaders, the modern Zionist presence in the region is a temporary colonial interlude destined to end.
