Western Orientalism
The scholarly and cultural framework, critiqued by Edward Said in “Orientalism,” in which Western writers, artists, and academics construct and represent “the East” (especially the Middle East and Asia) through a lens of exoticism, inferiority, and stereotyped Otherness. It refers to the specific Western mode of orientalist representation as opposed to orientalist attitudes found in other cultures.
