United Fruit Company
United Fruit Company was a major American corporation that dominated the banana trade in Central and South America from the late 19th through mid-20th century, and was notorious for its political influence in the region. It played a key role in the 1954 CIA-backed coup in Guatemala when its landholdings were threatened by agrarian reform under the Arbenz government.
