The Expulsion

The Expulsion refers to the expulsion of Jews from Spain in 1492 (the Alhambra Decree), which was framed by Spanish monarchs as completing the Reconquista—the centuries-long Christian reconquest of the Iberian Peninsula from Muslim rule that had begun with the Muslim conquest of 711. Historians argue the expulsion ultimately backfired economically and otherwise, harming the Christian majority it was ostensibly meant to benefit.
