The Bounce

The Bounce is a temporary oscillatory shift in hearing threshold following noise exposure, attributed to metabolic calcium disruption in outer hair cells (OHC calcium homeostasis disruption) rather than mechanical or acoustic damage to hair cells or the stria vascularis. It is distinguished from permanent overexposure damage because recovery from true acoustic overexposure is monotonic rather than oscillatory.
