Scheduled Caste
A legal and administrative category in India designating historically oppressed and marginalized communities (traditionally the “untouchables” or Dalits) who are entitled to affirmative action protections and reservations under Indian law. The status is legally restricted, notably excluding Dalits who convert to Christianity or Islam, and overlaps with but is not synonymous with the broader social category of “Dalit.”
