Romantic Orientalism
A mode of European representation and scholarship that idealizes and exoticizes the East (particularly the Islamic and Asian worlds), often casting it as a source of spiritual renewal or otherness for Europe. Moving beyond outright denigration in some cases, Romantic Orientalism nonetheless instrumentalized Asia as a means to regenerate Europe rather than engaging with it on its own terms.
