Reverse Orientalism
Reverse Orientalism describes a critical reversal of colonial-era scholarship in which formerly colonized or oppressed peoples adopt the same essentializing, romanticizing frameworks of the colonizer toward themselves. It mirrors the distortions of traditional Orientalism while adding a secondhand distance from direct reality, often presenting the oppressed as unfractioned and uniformly good, a stance that can serve development agencies and other external interests.
