Modern Orientalism

Modern Orientalism refers to the post-late-eighteenth-century Western scholarly and cultural discourse about the East. It expanded the representational range of earlier Orientalism but remains characterized by its secularization of inherited Christian frameworks and its expanded range of representation rather than by greater accuracy or objective knowledge, functioning more as a projection of Western power than a faithful depiction of its subject.
