Mandal Commission
The Socially and Educationally Backward Classes Commission (popularly the Mandal Commission) was a Government of India body that identified socially and educationally backward castes and recommended reservation quotas for them in public employment and education. Implementing its recommendations triggered violent upper-caste protests.
