Loyal Muslim
In colonial Algeria, “Loyal Muslims” (in French, Muslim loyalistes or évolués) were Algerian Muslims who remained loyal to French colonial rule rather than supporting the nationalist independence movement. After Algerian independence in 1962, such notables and caids (local administrative officials) who had sided with France often lost their positions and property.
