Indian Literature

A contested, constructed category of literary study referring to the literature of the Indian subcontinent. As used in these claims, it refers to the modern, unified canonical concept of “Indian Literature” that was manufactured—often by Orientalist scholarship—as Sanskritic, religious, and North Indian in focus, thereby excluding regional traditions such as Tamil literature.
