European Community
The European Community (EC) was the supranational organization established by treaties like the Treaty of Rome (1957) that integrated European states economically and legally, creating community law that could bind member states and their market actors through a legal framework transcending national borders. It later became a pillar of the European Union before being subsumed into it.
