Bacon’s Rebellion
An armed uprising in 1676 in colonial Virginia, led by Nathaniel Bacon against the colonial government and its policies toward Native Americans. It is historically significant for prompting Virginia’s planter class to institutionalize racial privileges that separated poor white laborers from enslaved Black people, reinforcing the development of chattel slavery.
