Vidal Gore β Eighteen Seventy [1650]
The scene in the downstairs parlour resembled a lying-in. Heavy curtains were drawn against the daylight. Large funereal candles stationed at strategic points created a dim but attractive setting for the roomβs centerpiece, a blue velvet chaise longue, on which reclined Puss, swathed attractively in lace, features pale and interesting. β Vidal Gore, Eighteen Seventy, 1650
Note
The description of the scene, particularly the candles and the blue velvet chaise longue, creates a rich, atmospheric image, evoking a sense of somber elegance and emotional weight as characters meet in a time of crisis.
