Octavia E. Butler - Earthseed, Book 1 -… [439]

Abandoning sacks, rabbits, pry bars, a long coil of rope, wire cutters, and even an excellent long aluminum ladder, they scrambled up that ladder and over the wall in seconds. — , Octavia E. Butler - Earthseed, Book 1 -…, 439

Note

The abandoned-gear list is a heist inventory turned inside out: each item names a specific capacity for violence and theft, and “even an excellent long aluminum ladder” lets Lauren’s admiration for good tools leak through mid-crisis. “Scrambled… in seconds” compresses panic into speed without ever saying panic.
