Wilson’s 1913 Gettysburg speech enacted national disremembering of slavery

Evidence

This is what President Woodrow Wilson reached for on July 4, 1913, at a gathering of Union and Confederate veterans to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. Assembled about him were white men wearing Union and Confederate uniforms. One even held a small Confederate flag. Wilson, the first southern president since the Civil War, declared the “quarrel forgotten.” — Eddie S. Glaude Jr., Democracy in Black, 278
