William of Auvergne mounted the most thorough rational critique of Islamic paradise
Evidence
The longest rational argument was that expounded with great thoroughness by William of Auvergne. He treated Islamic belief here under three heads, the foods served by angels to the blessed, the precious clothes and hangings, the embraces of women. His basic point was that eternal life thus conceived was no different from, in fact was inferior to, the life of this world. — Norman Daniel, Islam and the West, 830
