Western financial dependency curtails African churches’ theological knowledge production.
Evidence
Many mainstream Christian churches, such as the Catholic Church, are still heavily dependent on Caritas and other Western financial aid, a sorry state of affairs which, at times, curtails their ability to freely produce theological knowledge. With the rise of social media, Africa is also becoming more culturally dependent on the West. In this context of economic, political and cultural dependency, the encounter between Africa and the West continues to generate anxiety among a great many Africans, even though many Westerners view their impact as bringing modernity and progress according to the framework of the well-ingrained “civilizing mission” ideology. — Frans Dokman, Beyond Bantu Philosophy_…, 745
